Tesla Adds Ultra-Wideband to Android App, But It Will Work Only On These Tesla models

Tesla is making its app work better for Android phones. Many Android users have been wanting this because iPhone users usually get new Tesla app features first.

In the past, if Tesla came out with a new app feature, iPhone users would get it right away, while Android users had to wait.

Back in September, Tesla showed they were working on making the app better for Android.

Now, Tesla is about to make the Android app even better with one brand new feature and a big improvement to an existing one.

These changes are happening because Tesla is adding something called “ultra-wideband” support to Android. This has been holding back the app and how well it talks to the cars.

These new features aren’t available on Android just yet, but they’re coming soon.

A website called “Not a Tesla App” found out about these changes:

  • Better Phone Key: Adding ultra-wideband helps the app know exactly where your phone is in relation to your car. This makes the phone key feature much more accurate and reliable for Android users.
  • Trunk Opens by Itself (Hands-Free): Tesla is also adding a feature where the front trunk (frunk) and back trunk will open automatically. This is made possible by the ultra-wideband upgrade.

You’ll be able to just stand behind the car for a couple of seconds, and the trunk will open because the car knows your phone is there.

These changes will work on these Tesla models:

  • 2024 Tesla Model 3 and newer
  • 2021 Tesla Model S and newer
  • 2021 Tesla Model X and newer
  • Tesla Cybertruck
